THE Latest GESOP poll for El Periódico forecasts a four-way split Congress at the national level by the end of the year, in line with Metroscopia polls published by El País since January.
The new GESOP poll, though, predicts the governing Popular Party will win the election but will lose up to 84 seats. The poll forecasts between 102 and 107 seats for Mariano Rajoy’s party, compared to the current 186 which give the PP a parliamentary majority.
While the PP would retain slightly more than half of its current seats, it would see its percentage share of the vote slashed to 23.5 per cent, compared to the 44.6 per cent with which it won the general election in November 2011.
