Surge of algae and jellyfish forces cleaning work in La Linea

THE Playa de Poniente in La Linea has been inundated by a massive arrival of algae and jellyfish that has forced the council to launch emergency cleaning work.
Coasts councillor, Agustin Caro, explained that the water’s temperature and strong wings registered during the past days and weeks might be to blame for the sudden surge of these plants and animals.
It is not the first time that the government has been forced to clean beaches urgently. This time last year, the Santa Barbara beach in La Linea was also overwhelmed by thousands of jellyfish due to strong winds.
