A FREAK hailstorm that hit the Murcian municipalities of Jumilla and Yecla has caused damage amounting to more than €5 million.
The farming organisation Coag, has estimated the damage caused by the hailstorm to crops after 11,000 acres were affected when large hailstones fell in the area. They said it was the worst storm to hit in the last 20 years with olive, almond, cherry and apricot crops affected.
Only around 30 per cent of farmers had their crops insured.
