Costa women’s group walks for domestic violence survivors

COFFEE Break for Women Inland began in 2013 as a facebook page where women in Alhaurin El Grande could connect and get to know each other. It quickly became a group that met monthly to network, support each other and of course relax and chat.
In January the founding members of another association, AMUSUVIG (Asociacion de Mujeres Supervivientes de la Violencia de Genero) who were themselves survivors of domestic violence, came to the Coffee Break meeting to talk about their work in Malaga.
Coffee Break heard that AMUSUVIG help women to get temporary accommodation, food and other essential items to get them back on their feet. They also accompany the women to official offices where they need to make reports and an application for an injunction against their abuser.
Coffee Break has supported various charities over the years and last year they were given the chance to buy Christmas presents for 68 children from families broken by domestic violence in Malaga.
In order to raise awareness of AMUSUVIG, the Caminata De Mariposa, or Butterfly Walk, will take place in Alhaurin El Grande on June 5 starting at the Feria Ground and walk around the town on a 3.2 kilometre route. Coffee Break invites everyone to join them, with your friends or with the whole family. The idea is to wear white with purple accessories – a head band, pin on butterflies, tutus, whatever rocks your boat! The goal is to raise funds for survivors of domestic violence and awareness of the association AMUSUVIG.
