A JURY has found a father of 11 from Antequera who admitted killing his son guilty of manslaughter.
During the hearing at a Malaga court, the 73-year-old father admitted to having killed his son and said he did it because “the devil got inside me.”
The man told of the complicated home life the family endured, blaming his son’s longstanding drug addiction. He explained that after hitting him two or three times on the back of the head with a hammer, he dragged the body into a bedroom, cleaned up the blood and went out.
“I hadn’t planned it, it just happened. My son wasn’t bad, it was the drugs. I have 11 children and I love them all equally, but this one instead of helping….” the man told the court.
Seven of the nine jury members believed that the man killed his son by hitting him over the head with a hammer but decided that constant violent episodes the family suffered due to the deceased’s drug addiction were extenuating circumstances.
After the jury gave its verdict, the public prosecutor requested a nine-and-a-half-year jail sentence, while the defence has suggested two and a half years.
