ELCHE’S new National Police Commissioner María Jesús Bustos Quinones took up her post on Friday May 29, the first female to step into the command, succeeding Commissioner Antonio Selva who now heads the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade. She was welcomed and congratulated by a number of civil dignitaries and senior police representatives.The commissioner comes to her new position from Valencia where she headed a scientific police unit.Commissioner Bustos conveyed her thanks for the trust placed in her to steer the force into a proactive line of duty with particular attention to the prevention of robbery, violence and efforts to redouble the fight against gender violence. Another of her objectives, she pointed out, was to step up investigations into organised and ‘cyber’ crime.Bustos’ command will include a total of 412 officers.
