SCHOOL may not have broken up yet for the summer, but thoughts are already turning to the next school year. The Ministry of Education of the Generalitat Valenciana regional government is proposing that the 2015-2016 course in the region starts on September 3 for infant and primary school classes, ending on June 17 2016.Secondary and baccalaureate students will also start on September 3 and end June 9, according to the proposals of the school calendar for the next academic year. This is the second year that the course will start in the first week of September with the goal “to promote the reconciliation of work and family life” said the Minister for Education, Maria Jose Catala. School started earlier than normal this year for the first time but was met by some criticism due to the intense heat that remained at the start of September forcing some classes to be cancelled. The Christmas holidays will run from December 23 to January 6 inclusive and Easter will be from March 24 to April 4, 2016.
Meanwhile, the President of the Federation of Association of Parents of Students of Valencia (FAPA), Eva Grimaltos, is calling on the Regional Government to keep school cafeterias open during the summer months, to ensure a meal service, especially for families currently experiencing economic difficulties, allowing children to still enjoy a solid meal throughout the holidays.
