BENIDORM launched its new metred parking system in the centre of the city on June 1 and local traders are delighted. The problem with parking in Benidorm, especially in the summer, is that holidaymakers tend to park their car then abandon it until two weeks later when it is time to go home, causing chaos for everyone else. The new blue zone around Calle Antonio Ramos Carratalá, with 44 regulated spaces, has already made an enormous difference to the ease of parking. The president of the association of restaurants, bars and cafes in Benidorm (ABRECA), Javier del Castillo, said: “It’s much better, especially in summer, to regulate the streets with blue zone parking to encourage a fair rotation of vehicles and allow everyone a chance to park.”
