ACCORDING to a new poll, former US President George W Bush is now more popular than the current US President Barack Obama.

Released on Wednesday, the CNN/ORC survey reveals that 52 per cent of Americans prefer the former Republican president, who was in office from 2001 to 2009, compared to 49 per cent, who prefer Democrat Obama.

David Gergen, a former adviser to Presidents Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Clinton, said that over the years, the majority of people have forgotten about Iraq.

He said: “The blame is shifting on Iraq from Bush to Obama.
“For a long time, from when Obama first took office, most Americans blamed George W Bush for the mess in Iraq.”

“In this new poll it’s about even, they blame both men about the same.
“George W Bush has consciously taken the view that he does not want to second guess the incumbent, as a personality has come out, he’s been funny when he’s been out speaking.”

“I think he’s handled himself well by not jumping into the middle and becoming partisan.”
