APPLE has voluntarily requested that its popular Beats Pill XL speakers be recalled due to possible fire risks.
The company announced that the decision was due to a discovery that the Bluetooth speakers’ batteries can overheat, causing risks of fire and burns, and ensured that customers would be reimbursed after returning the items.
The company urged owners of Beats Pill XL speakers not to use them, and to contact the company’s website for information on how to send them back.
In exchange, they will be offered either credit for Apple Store or a refund by bank transfer, the company promised, stressing that no other Beats of Apple products were affected by the recall.
To avoid confusion, Apple explained that the speakers referred to bear a b for Beats logo on the speaker grills and the Beats Pill XL name is on the handle.
The speakers were launched by Beats in November 2013, and according to the American press 222,000 have been sold in the US alone.
