May was the hottest and driest

MAY in Alicante province was officially the warmest ever recorded. During the month, six municipalities in Alicante exceed 40 degrees between Wednesday May 13 and Thursday 14, according to temperatures recorded by the Meteorological Agency, with temperatures the hottest in Crevillente (42 degrees), Elche, Orihuela, Rojales, Novelda and Villena. Throughout the month, the average temperature was 21 degrees, two degrees more than normal, mixed with drought-like conditions with 85 per cent less rainfall.
The Valencia Region as a whole also recorded the hottest and driest month since 1964, mainly determined by the heat registered in the first half of May, when temperatures reached up to 45 degrees.
