ASTON MARTIN has realised that it’s not only the major manufactures that might have to rethink engine sizes in the future, just to keep in line with the automotive industry’s pursuit of higher efficiency and lower emissions.Not even small-volume manufacturers like Aston, McLaren, Bentley and Lotus will escape having to make extreme changes. But Andy Palmer, CEO of Aston Martin, has given us a brief reassuring insight into their thinking.“I see in our future obviously V12s, V8s and probably battery-electric cars,” Palmer revealed to Autocar. “As time evolves, there’s probably an inevitability to hybridisation, simply because, car by car, you can only downsize so much. I’d rather put a hybrid in there than an in-line four-cylinder.”
