Corpus Christi, an emotional celebration

On Sunday June 7, the feast of Corpus Christi (the Body of Christ) was celebrated. It is a solemn Catholic service which usually takes place on the first Thursday after Trinity.
This year the event took place on the Sunday at the church of Parque Ntra Sra del Carmen, Fuengirola. Worshippers attended the morning mass at 10am and then the procession took to the streets at 11am. A brass band led the way followed by the bearers of the Body of Christ.
Included in the procession were groups including children who had recently taken their First Communion, representatives of health services and businesses, and many other associations, who came to pay their respects.
The ceremony of Corpus Christi is a very emotional and beautiful event for followers. Hundreds attended on the day when sombre music and song was played to what became a wonderful display of thanksgiving.
