PUPILS at the play centre Trapiche in Motril’s Cerillo Jaime district are to participate in a sign language course to celebrate the Day of Spanish Sign Language (June 14).
The Costa Tropical Association of the Deaf (ASOTRAL), which organised the event, said at a press conference, that the activity was aimed at promoting values like respect, tolerance and empathy amongst the children aged between four and 14.
“We, as members of the deaf community, want to celebrate the national day of sign language, to cast a positive image of deaf and deaf-blind people,” said Head of ASOTRAL, Sandra Mercado.
“This event aims at teaching the children that deaf people have the same capacity as any other person,” Social Services Councillor, Angeles Lopez Cano.
