A SEVILLA mother found guilty by a jury of killing two of her babies and hiding them in the family freezer has had her 35-year jail sentence confirmed by the Supreme Court. The original sentence of 17 and a half years in jail for each crime and damages of almost €250,000 for her ex-husband and other two children was given by a Sevilla Provincial Court after the jury found her guilty of the murders.Sara LH, from Pilas in Sevilla Province, kept two pregnancies a secret, gave birth alone at home and suffocated the babies before concealing them in plastic bags and hiding them under food in the freezer. The woman’s ex-husband found the babies in November 2012 while cleaning the freezers, and post mortem examinations concluded that both were born alive, breathed outside the uterus, and were sufficiently developed to survive, concluding that both had been suffocated. The woman stated in court that she had hidden her pregnancies because she was scared her husband would force her to abort and that the first baby had been born dead and then claimed to have no recollection whatsoever of the second pregnancy or birth.Although an appeal was placed with the Spanish Supreme court against the sentence, it found no reason to consider the procedures incorrect and confirmed it.
