A PACT between the Andalucian Party (PA) and the PSOE socialists in Motril has placed Flor Almon as the town’s new mayor.
The new local government has ousted conservative party PP, after they lost their absolute majority in the elections on May 24.
Spokesperson for the PA, Antonio Escamez, announced that the decision to support PSOE had been influenced by the opinion of all affiliates of the party, and that it had not been easy to take, as the party had also started negotiations with the PP.
Finally, he said, they chose to support PSOE, as they believed that the socialist’s programme was more favourable to the development of the town.
The new coalition will also need support from left-wing party Izquierda Unida (IU), who had already announced that they would support a council led by the PSOE, but without entering the local government.
The agreement stipulates that the Urbanism, Environment, Development, Employment, Citizens’ Safety, Personnel, Sports and Health departments, will be led by PA councillors.
