Golfing gala raises €37,000 for Butterfly Children

A GROUP of 196 generous golfers played the Aloha Golf Club on Saturday June 6 to raise funds for the Butterfly Children Charity DEBRA Spain. The event was part of a gala weekend at the Marbella club which managed to raise a staggering total of €37,000 with the support of their sponsors and generous donations of prizes to this worthy cause.
Before the tee off, the players enjoyed champagne and strawberries to set them up for their game which included a chance to ‘Beat the Pro,’ Ignacio Isern, at the eighth hole. Afterwards there was a prize presentation at the clubhouse, where drinks and canapés were served.
The following day, on Sunday June 7, the Butterfly Ball was opened by the sounds of the TAPAS choir entertaining the 232 guests and thereafter a three-course meal was served in the picturesque terrace overlooking the 18th hole.
There was a raffle and auction where bids over €7,000 were made as prizes included items such as a signed Ryder Cup flag donated by the famous Miguel Angel Jimenez. Later the well-known entertainers Mr Maph and Ricky Lavazza took to the stage, enticing the guests to dance the night away until 2am.
A spokesperson for the charity said: “Funds raised at this event will be dedicated to improve the lives of Butterfly Children and their families throughout Spain via projects such as The Marbella Respite Home or hospital and home visits by our health professional team when a baby is born with this condition anywhere in Spain.”
