Although the Socialist regional executive asked him publicly to step down and not run in the elections, the local assembly of the party endorsed his candidacy. Now he has resigned, number six on the PSOE list of candidates, Maria del Carmen Medina Oltra, will take a place on the council, which is headed by Maria Teresa Belmonte Sanchez of the PP, the conservative party having obtained the majority.
