JUNE 15 marked the ending of the Frigiliana Fair, which organisers have said was one of the best attended of the past few years. The ‘feria de dia,’ or daytime fair, is a phenomenon relatively new in Frigiliana, as the event used to be an exclusively nocturnal affair.Flamenco and folklore performances swept away the village with renowned artists such as Nuria Fergo and Antonio Cortes.Los SuperSingles were in charge of entertaining crowds at the municipal ‘caseta.’ The group is well known for their appearances every Sunday in the Spanish TV Channel Telecinco. One of the most important dates for Frigiliana locals is the pilgrimage, which has been celebrated for decades. Hundreds of locals and visitors wearing their best flamenco attire accompanied the icon of the patron saint San Antonio along the river by carriage, on foot or riding horses. The most awaited event was without a doubt the ‘Carrera de Autos Locos’ (Crazy Cars Raze), with drew hundreds of participants from the departure point in Calle Real to the finish line in Avenida Carlos Cano.A magical fireworks spectacle put the finishing touch to the big festivities of Frigiliana, enjoyed by visitors and locals alike.
