Subway – where fresh means fresh for some healthy eating

SUBWAY on Benidorm’s Avenida Alcoy has been open for 16 years and is still true to its original aims – to serve healthy, high quality, fresh food.
The Subway brand is recognised worldwide with 43,958 restaurants in 110 countries, and has become the benchmark for an almost infinite variety of ingredients and toppings, all encased in one of five tasty subs.
The menu has something for everyone. Delicious meats, fish and vegetables mean that anyone can walk in and in minutes have their own bespoke sub made and ready to eat. Helgi Helgason, owner of the two Subways in Benidorm said: “The principle is very simple. A customer can have their sub made just for them. They choose the type of bread they want, either toasted or cold, then choose from the main fillings, or a combination. They can add extras like cheese or bacon and then decide if they want vegetables added. Next come the variety of sauces and peppers so you can make it as spicy as you like.”
Of course the first choice you have to make is whether you want a full foot long sub or just six inches. Helgi said: “I eat one every day, tuna usually, but only have a six inch one. I have to be careful as it is all delicious and I could be tempted to have more.”
Subway can also provide outside catering on any level. Whether you need some food for a business meeting, corporate event or just a birthday party, Subway can prepare subs to your requirements. They also can provide lunch boxes for offices.
If you order before 4.30pm your subs will be ready to be collected, or delivered, the next day. In fact Subway have just been commissioned by Microsoft to provide the catering for the launch of Windows 10 later this year.
Healthy eating is on everyone’s mind these days and Subway is conscious about this. It labels the subs with their calorific content and many of its sauces are calorie free. Helgi said: “We like to let people know exactly what they are eating.”
Subway has just introduced a breakfast roll which has egg and ham in it and is a perfect way to start your day.
So if you need to grab a healthy roll and leave, or wish to sit down, relax and take advantage of the free WiFi, then Subway has got to be the fresh option.
