THE Social Welfare Department in La Nucia has confirmed that more than 500 toys have been delivered to families facing economic difficulties. The toys have been collected through various departments in the council with the help of local schools as well as a number of anonymous donations that have been made through the El Calvari Social Centre. The toys are being distributed throughout the city to coincide with the end of the school year, when children have more free time and consequently more time for playthings.La Nucia Mayor Bernabé Cano said: “This is one of the ways that we can express our solidarity with some of the more needy families in our community.”The Social Services Department is also running a campaign for the donation of good quality clothing to those who cannot afford to buy new.
