Low-cost companies bring surge of passengers to the Islands

LOW-COST flight companies are reporting very positive results in the Balearic Islands, transporting 1,178,362 passengers in the first three months of 2015.
This figure is an 8.6 per cent increase on the same period of the year before, according to the data published by the Energy, Industry and Tourism Ministry.
In April, the report indicates that a total of 626,765 passengers travelled to the Balearic Islands using a no-frills service, 5.8 per cent more than the same month of 2014. The number represents 17.7 per cent of the total number of low-cost airline passengers in the whole of Spain.
Madrid, Cataluña and the Balearic Islands received more than 1.5 million international passengers on cut-price flights, totalling 65 per cent of the total influx of passengers coming from abroad.
