The trialks and tribulations of radiotherapy

So far so good with the radiotherapy. I started having treatments in the evening but that wasn´t suitable with two children so they kindly made an exception and gave me a morning appointment.
The disadvantage of having a morning slot is that is tremendously difficult to park near the Carlos Haya Hospital. So a few days ago I was desperately looking for a parking spot to avoid going into the car park but it was proving tough. Suddenly I spotted an opening and whizzed across the road performing an illegal maneuver that did not go unnoticed by the Police. My mind went into overdrive and I have to say I was a little bit wicked. I pulled my wig down to one side at a rather jaunty angle and opened my window. The Police office regarded me for a moment and asked if I was aware of my infraction. I replied that I was terribly sorry and that I was late for my radiotherapy. He looked at me again and waved me on! Thank Goodness. Always look on the bright side.
Today however was a different matter. Having been used to going in and finishing my treatment relatively quickly I was to experience the infamous delays that I had heard about.
When you arrive for therapy you have to deposit a little card through a postbox to let the team know you are in the waiting room. I noticed that it seemed unusually busy today. People seemed anxious and with good reason. The machine had broken down. It was ´my´ machine number 2! So we sat there for hours while the technician fixed it. Finally it was back in action but just before I was called in it broke down again. Typical.
Everyone was getting hungry but spirits were high and the Andalusian sense of humour carried us through. Finally the machine was fixed after a second breakdown and I managed to complete my session. I was against the clock as a friend was landing at Malaga airport for a flying visit.
As I write this she sits by me. She’s a life-long friend where no words are necessary. I feel hugely boosted by her presence. I have been in quite a dark place of late and her visit is just what the doctor ordered. As soon as the sun is eclipsed by a cloud and life seems without purpose a ray of light bursts out keeping your faith in hope and happiness alive.
Everything is possible in this strange and unpredictable world.
