FIVE Romanian citizens have been arrested accused of having carried out several robberies in a number of towns across Granada Province with bars and restaurants the main targets.
Police reported that the gang concentrated on slot machines. To retrieve the cash, they used a mallet and covered their faces with balaclavas to avoid being identified by cameras. Once inside the establishments, they would also help themselves to money from the cash register, as well as steal alcohol bottles and other items.
The accused are believed to have carried out robberies in nine restaurants and bars in Gualchos, Motril, Almuñecar, Velez de Benaudalla, Orgiva and Guadix, between October 2014 and June of 2015, having obtained a total of €24,000 loot.
Police also believe they are the perpetrators of a vehicle theft in Motril back in November.
Detainees have been remanded to prison and charged with crimes of robbery and membership of a criminal gang.
