THE FOGUERES in Alicante

CENTRAL Alicante is presently the scene of crazy effigies in plaster, wood and paint, as big as houses, depicting political personalities, TV stars and other characters that are part of Spanish life.
Throughout this week there will be bonfires, street parties, parades, marching bands and all sorts of ritual celebrations that are part of the San Juan Festival, right up until Monday June 29 when there will be a fantastic firework display to satisfy the wildest pyrotechnic dreams that can be seen from miles around.
If you are going to see the fires remember to wear old clothes and keep a safe distance from popping fire crackers.
