A TEAM of experts are in Lorca to examine the Alhama de Murcia fault line.
The ‘Intergeo Project’ is being financed by the national government in an attempt to better understand the seismic activity and behaviour of the fault in order to assess and calculate the probability of future earthquakes. The major quake of 2011 measured 5.1 on the Richter scale and killed nine people and left 300 people injured and over 1,000 homes destroyed.
The experts, led by professors from a Madrid university, will begin tests by drilling to a depth of around 250 metres to obtain rock samples.
