THE Basque city of San Sebastian has overturned a ban on bullfighting three years after it was brought in. The city’s new centrist coalition government of the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) and Basque Socialist Party (PSE, and affiliate of PSOE) has made one of the first acts of its rule to bring back bullfighting, which was banned in 2012 by the left-wing, pro-independence coalition Bildu.
The PNV announced on Monday (June 22) that bullfighting would make its return at the city’s festival in August, Semana Grande, and six bullfights have already been planned for the fiesta.
