A SCUBA diver has been found guilty of negligent homicide after his diving partner died following his instructions.
The incident took place at El Toro beach (Palma) in 2010, when the victim had trouble while diving and signalled to the man she wanted to go back to the surface. The sentence explained that the man then pressed a button on her life jacket to inflate it and the woman resurfaced without carrying out decompression stops. She died before making it to the surface.
The Provincial Court of Mallorca has given the man a fine of €180. The insurance company will have to pay compensation of €80,000 to the victim’s parents.
