TWO Britons were arrested for mowing down a Local Police officer when fleeing from a routine checkpoint near Estepona.
The events took place near the Diana Shopping Mall when the police ordered the driver of the vehicle to stop. He reportedly ignored them and when an officer approached the vehicle, went into reverse and knocked him down before fleeing the area.
The officer was taken to the Costa del Sol Hospital with a broken leg.
Meanwhile, a combined effort between National and Local Police resulted in the vehicle being located in Cancelada, where it had allegedly been abandoned. The two occupants had taken a taxi to the hotel in which they were staying. The man and woman were caught as they were about to enter. Reports suggest that the car was not insured and was not supposed to be used on public roads.
