ELCHE urgently needs more Local Police officers to cover holidays and ensure smooth service over the summer period, Security Councillor Cristina Martinez has announced.Martinez has informed the council’s Treasury and Human Resources departments of the need for more staff, and complained that officers have been given holidays in June-September, causing staff shortages within the force.Over the last four years, the councillor declared, 18 officers have retired and not been replaced, and although 380 officers are budgeted for there are only 347 in service.Urgent measures and a detailed study are needed to ensure correct services, Martinez said.
