A dog is for life says La Nucia animal shelter

AFTER taking in 74 puppies in two days, the animal shelter in La Nucia is trying to raise awareness of a very simple fact: Think before you buy or breed.
They claim the excuses for dropping a dog off at an animal shelter are various. Some are valid but most are the result of lack of thought and consideration.
President of the shelter Belen Nunez said it was heartbreaking at this time of year, when those puppies bought as a Christmas present, now grown, are dumped when their owners find they are too much to handle.
The La Nucia shelter is now at saturation point and the management there is appealing not only for homes for their present residents but also for a little common sense. A dog should not be a Christmas gift: a dog is for life they said.
