A SUCCESSFUL exhibition commemorating the Second World War evacuation of Gibraltar has been made available online. Photographs of exhibits can now be viewed on the Gibraltar National Archives site. The exhibition, titled Honouring a Generation, ran at the John Mackintosh Hall in May to mark the 75th anniversary of the evacuation and can now be viewed by anyone interested, anywhere in the world.Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia said: “The government felt that it was important to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the evacuation in a number of different ways. This online exhibition is one of them.“I am very grateful to Mr Joe Gingell for making the exhibits available and to the Archivist, Anthony Pitaluga, and his team, who have been instrumental in digitising them.”Dr Garcia added: “The experiences that the evacuees underwent and the sense of helplessness on the part of the men left behind on the Rock, accounted in large measure for the demands for greater self-government that followed the war.”Photos of the exhibition can be seen at: http://www.nationalarchives.gi/gna/EvacExhibitionImages.aspx#
