MARBELLA is preparing for its debut as host of Stage One of the Vuelta Ciclista de España cycling race next month.
Council teams and the event´s organisers are busy getting plans into place and making necessary improvements for the August 22 launch, which features a 7.4 kilometre sprint between Puerto Banus and Marbella’s marina.
On the to-do list are tasks including eliminating obstacles from the route, creating a wooden bridge to span a 100-metre gap between Coral Beach and Rio Verde and working out how to get the mass of cyclists over the river itself.
Preparations are also underway to cater for the estimated 2,500-3,000 people the race will bring with it and also beautify the area as all cameras will be trained on the city on the day.
