THE Alicante Transfusion Centre has reported a decline in stock for blood groups O+ and O-. The reserves for O+ are at only 34 per cent, equivalent to a two-day supply, and for O- 53 per cent, also two days’ supply.The Centre hopes to replenish stocks during its Saturday morning donor sessions on Alicante’s Gran Via, Tuesday afternoons at the Outlet Stores in San Vicente del Raspeig, Wednesday afternoon at Puerta de Alicante and Thursday afternoon at Plaza Mar.The councillor for Public Health, Carmen Stack, stressed on Friday July 3 the importance of donating blood during the summer, a time when there are greater deficiencies. She said: “Anyone may need blood at any time – to donate it is an exercise in responsibility.”The Transfusion Centre facilitates blood donation on beaches, recreation areas and camping sites throughout July and August.
