LOCAL police in Cartagena are beginning to experience a recovery in terms of staff recruitment, meaning the public will see more officers on the beat.
The police body will be able to count on four new officers, hired to reinforce the team during the summer season in a campaign that will last until September 30.
The four urban districts (Barrio Peral, Barrio de la Concepcion, Santa Lucia, the town centre and Los Dolores) will be guarded by these new officers.
The news was welcomed by a spokesperson for the UGT workers union, although he requested the council make an extra effort to increase police presence in coastal areas during weekends and public festivities, at the Cabo de Palos markets and in areas where youngsters drink alcohol in public spaces, a phenomenon known as ‘botelleo’ amongst locals.
