FOLLOWING six gruelling months of work and preparations, Benalmadena’s marina has been awarded three important quality certificates. After receiving diplomas to prove the qualifications, the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, local Mayor Victor Navas congratulated marina workers on their conscientious efforts towards the achievement.“The council is going to work to return our marina to its former status as one of the best in the Mediterranean, and these certificates are the first step in the right direction,” Navas declared.Port Councillor Encarnacion Cortes added her congratulations to the mayor’s and said they were also a step towards getting blue flags back on Benalmadena’s beaches. An inspection will be carried out on the beaches in August to consider blue beach flags for 2016, the councillor revealed.Meanwhile Francisco Martin-Santamaria from Bureau Veritas (the independent entity which ensures quality levels are met for the certificates), remarked: “Few Spanish ports have all three certificates, which guarantee the quality of management (ISO 9001), care for the environment (ISO 14001) and their capacity to meet health and safety requirements (OHSAS 18001).”
