Mijas Council in crisis

Jaume Sans

LESS than a month after a pact was reached and Mijas council members sworn in, crisis has struck and sparks have begun to fly.
The pact, which allowed Ciudadanos candidate Juan Carlos Maldonado to take over as Mayor while former Partido Popular Mayor Angel Nozal was named deputy mayor, was drawn up to include a number of points, one of which was the naming of the local police force leader, according to the PP.
Yet all is not calm in the village, as Maldonado has announced that he has removed Nozal from his posts as head of various departments, claiming that the former mayor’s personal issues with the police force leader have lead him to make disloyal comments.
The PP has been invited to name a new head for the departments, while Nozal has announced that the two parties have agreed to give themselves a week of breathing space to mull things over before reaching any more decisions regarding the pact.
