Trial for forcing disabled woman into prostitution

A MAN, 46, is facing 10 years in prison for sexually abusing a mentally disabled woman, 22, and forcing her into prostitution.
The events took place between June 2013 and March 2014, when the man, who allegedly knew that the victim had been declared 71 per cent disabled, took money from her disability allowance.
She did not get on with her carers and sometimes left their home, which is when he would allegedly take her to his house when his wife was not there. He is also accused of taking the money which she earned through prostitution.
He denied the charges in Palma Provincial Court, though he admits to having had a sexual relationship with her. He claims he did not know she was disabled and denies ever having taken money from her.
Meanwhile she said in court that she thought of him as her boyfriend and that he made her drink so he could have sex with her. She also said he demanded she give him all her money so he could pay the rent.
His defence is demanding an acquittal as the sex was consensual and the woman denies having had sex with other men to get money to give to him. However, her carers said this happened on several occasions.
