No cars on the seafront of Torre de Benagalbon

THE Council of Rincon de la Victoria has been forced to rethink its intention to open the road along the sea front to traffic in Torre de Benagalbon due to residents’ complaints.
The road that passes along the Torre de Benagalbon beach will continue to be vehicle-free and only available for bicycles and pedestrians, as was agreed back in the summer of 2013.
Mayor of Rincon de la Victoria, Encarnacion Anaya announced the news to the recently created Association for the Defence of Natural Values of the Torre de Benagalbon Seafront, after a meeting held in the Town Hall.
This decision has been motivated by several complaints made by residents who had claimed that measures to prevent the entrance of vehicles had been somewhat interrupted during the past three weeks, after three bollards were broken. This happened as a proposal was made by the new local government to reopen the area for vehicles in order to favour beach bars and give access to the coasts.
“It is nonsense to go backwards on what we have already achieved in terms of environmental sustainability and landscape respect,” said Head of the Association, Antonio Trillo, who started a petition on Change.org to prevent the road from reopening to traffic, which has already been signed by almost a thousand people.
