A WOMAN diver has died following a tragic incident in Gran Canaria, when she was hit in the neck by a windsurfer’s board. The Russian expat, who had lived in the Canaries for a number of years, died on Monday afternoon (July 20) after sustaining a severe cut in the incident.She had been diving for shellfish in the Bahia de Formas area, a popular choice on the east coast of the island for windsurfers, at a spot known as Cueva Laya. According to authorities she was not using a marker buoy to show her position.When emergency services arrived at the scene they were unable to revive the 31-year-old, who had lost a large amount of blood.The windsurfer, who was reported to be a Swiss tourist, was taken to a health centre and treated for shock.
