ELCHE wants to equip the local police force of the municipality with protective vests. Councillor for Citizen Security, Cristina Martinez, has filed a motion proposing the local government committee approve a budget of €48,000 to provide the vests to the force.
The aim of the proposal is that it can “improve and strengthen the working conditions of police with a commitment to extend this item in the municipal budget for next year.”
The proposal involves granting police officers concerned a financial grant of €500 for the purchase of vests for self-protection.
The councillor said the daily work carried out by local police officers required them to sometimes work in environments of “great difficulty and danger that compromise the security and integrity of the agents.” Martinez added: “One of the priorities of this council lies in improving the security of its workers, including the local police.”
