WORK is to be carried out for the regeneration of the sand dunes of Arenales del Sol.The central government has decided to intervene in finding a solution to the destruction of vegetation and dunes on the beaches of Arenales and El Carabassi, speeding up with increased visitor numbers and beach side activities. The Provincial Coastal Service (Costas) plans to carry out more checks on the area and form a plan to reverse the deterioration. The work will aim to “consolidate the moving dunes and create a primary dune, by installing sensors and planting special dune species,” said the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment. The project to protect and restore the sand dunes is expected to last two months and will have a budget of €260,000.In recent years Costas laid 1,031m of boardwalk, spread over five sections along the promenade of Arenales del Sol, at a cost of €600,000 to prevent walking on the dunes and to assist in the regeneration of vegetation.
