AUSTRALIAN surfer Mick Fanning had to fend off an attack by a shark live on TV during a competition. The competitor was taking part in the final of the World Surf League in Jeffrey Bay in South Africa when the shark struck.
Using his surfboard as a shield, the Australian punched the shark in the back, after which it swam away. Fortunately, Mr Fanning was unhurt but due to the incident, the Jeffrey Bay Open was cancelled for that day.
