THE Balearic Islands reportedly sends €1.33 billion to other regions which it doesn’t get back.This is 5.08 per cent of the region’s Gross Domestic Product, according to data from 2012 included in the report ‘Territorial Public Accounts System’ which was issued by the Tax Ministry. It analyses the ratio between expenses and benefits which result from the effect of public budgets in each area.Madrid, the Balearic Islands, Cataluña and Valencia contribute €1.45 billion to the system, but get less than that invested into the regional system.Per person, the Balearic Islands contributes €1,192. The Tax Office concludes that the richer regions contribute more to the system.
