Former Mayor of Sax: Vicente Gil

THE former mayor of Sax, Vicente Gil, has been expelled from PP party after being arrested by National Police officers in relation to alleged irregularities in the awarding and execution of work on rural roads.
The arrest was made by agents of the Economic Crime Unit and before Gil spent the night in the cells. He appeared in court to hear the crimes he is accused of, which also included charges related to bribery.
The case concerns the re-paving of a rural road in the town in 2014. Mayor Vicente Gil and his first deputy mayor, Pedro Nieto, proposed to pave 400 metres but the residents it benefited were told they would have to pay a third of the cost. Residents said work began last October and they paid the money but then work stopped and the road remains uncompleted.
One resident who denounced the mayor for his actions said: “To me it seemed strange to have to deliver that amount of money but I was more surprised when the municipal architect told me that there was no project or any documents concerning this action.”
Of the case, the mayor previously said, “the only things that may have been committed are administrative errors by pure ignorance.”
