Gandia reports virus spread by tiger mosquito

TIGER TIGER BURNING BITE: Can spread infection.

THE Department of Epidemiology in Gandia has reported four cases of viral infection from bites of the tiger mosquito.
The tiger mosquito is renowned for transmitting viral diseases from one person to another.
It is a significant pest in many countries due to the fact it associates with humans rather than living and breeding in areas of water. It is most prevalent at dusk and dawn although it does remain active during the daytime. The name is derived from the identifiable stripes on its body.
The intense heatwave on the Costa Blanca has made the area a perfect breeding ground for the insects.
The Department of Health advises anyone who suffers joint pain or fever after being bitten to seek medical advice from a pharmacy, or in extreme circumstances to visit their local hospital.
