SIX people have been stabbed at the Gay Pride parade in Jerusalem with two individuals seriously injured after a man, described as an ultra-Orthodox Jew, attacked several individuals, according to Jerusalem’s ambulance service.
A man was later arrested by police and taken into custody.
Ten years ago, four marchers at the city’s gay festival were also injured after being stabbed. Yishai Schlissel, an ultra-Orthodox Jew, was found guilty of the attack and sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Jerusalem’s march has stoked tensions between the city’s secular residents and its Jewish Orthodox inhabitants and extra police are employed along the length of the parade as extra security.
