AN impressive 27 people, well above the average intake of 20, donated blood at the Social the Cirer in La Nucia on Thursday July 23 in response to a number of appeals regarding low blood reserves. Of the 32 volunteer donors 27 were assessed as suitable.The Transfusion Service has a new slogan: ‘Be a donor: blood donation will save three lives’, which it is hoped will attract new donors throughout 2015.A daily level of 300 donations are needed for the Alicante Province hospitals to operate efficiently.Blood donors must be 18 years of age and younger than 65, weighing more than 50 kilos. It is not necessary to fast before you give blood and even people with high cholesterol can donate – four times per year for men and three times for women.La Nucia’s next blood donation session will be at the Cirer Social Hall from 5.30pm to 8.30pm on August 6.
