COPPER: Stolen again from Elda football ground.
COPPER thieves are still striking across Alicante as cable continues to disappear throughout the province.
The latest robbery occurred in Elda where thieves targeted the municipal football ground, La Sismat, sabotaging floodlights. Cables were also removed from the irrigation system so the turf cannot be watered until the system is repaired.
Local police officers interrupted the gang, who still managed to get away with more than 100 metres of copper.
This was the second time that La Sismat has been stripped its copper, following the loss of 500 metres of cable from three floodlights in March.
The Sports department at Elda hopes to replace the stolen cable before the end of the month, ready for when the football season starts again.
