A TEENAGED German tourist is proving it pays not to switch off entirely when on holiday, having spotted a gold bar worth €16,000 in a lake in Bavaria.
The 16-year-old young woman was swimming in Koenigsseelake, just a few metres from the shore, when she saw the bullion bar glittering on the bed at a depth of just two metres.
She handed her treasure over to police, who are now looking in to where it may have come from. The find reignited old, local rumours of Nazi gold lost in the lake, but reports insist the bar is not from that period.
Police sent out divers to search for any further gold in the lake, but nothing else was turned up.
